Siem Reap City Divided into Red, Yellow Zones

Siem Reap: As expected, the Siem Reap Provincial Administration has issued a declaration dividing Siem Reap City into a number of red and yellow zones. The zones came into effect at 1pm on Friday for the next seven days. On Thursday night, Siem Reap Governor, Tea Seiha, warned that red zones would be declared “soon”, saying that people are just not cooperating. He says Covid-19 cases, especially the Delta variant, have been discovered in several markets that are now closed. The governor is blaming citizens in the city for not following the safety measures set by the Ministry of Health. He added that they have also discovered people with symptoms of Covid-19 hiding their true health status.

Friday’s statement identifies red zones in Slor Kram, Svay Dangkum, Kork Chak, Chreav, Ta Vien, Sala Kamroeuk, Prey Thom and Srang Nge village. Yellow Zones have been imposed in other parts of Sangkat Sala Kamroeuk, Sangkat Nokor Thom, Sangkat Siem Reap, Sangkat Sro Nge, Sangkat Teuk Vil, Sangkat Krabei Riel, Sangkat Chong Khleas and Sangkat Sambour.

The governor had warned that the whole of Siem Reap City would be declared a red zone, but this has not been the case. Those in the new red zones are not permitted to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.
